Dieses Buch ist kein Leitfaden im Stil von wo, welche Elemente in welcher Reihenfolge platziert werden sollten. Es beginnt weit früher. Was ist eine gelungene Schnittstelle für den Menschen ? Der Autor Jef Raskin beschäfftigt sich in seinem Buch nicht nur mit Oberflächen von Computern und deren Anwendungen, sondern auch mit dem Design von Autoradios und Flugzeugcockpits.
Angefangen von psychologischen Erkenntnissen beim Arbeiten mit Schnittstellen („Haben Sie auch schon mal versehentlich was gelöscht, obwohl Sie es bestätigen mussten ?“), widmet Jef Raskin jeweils ein Kapitel dem Thema Modalität, der Messbarkeit von Interfaces sowie Vereinheitlichung und Navigation. Er gibt Ausblicke auf bessere GUI’s wie zum Beispiel Zoom Oberflächen. Als Softwareentwickler wird einem öfters ein „Aber…“ durch den Kopf gehen, wenn man dieses Buch liest. Dennoch zeigt einem der Autor bessere (anwenderfreundlichere) Lösungen.
Das Buch erinnert auch an Dinge, die man nicht mehr wahrnimmt oder bereits verdrängt hat. Wieso benötigt ein PC soll lange zum Booten ? Die erste Begegnung mit einem Computer und die Frage an welcher Stelle der Cursor überschreibt, einfügt, nach rechts oder links löscht ? Wieso ist eine Maus kein intuitives Eingabegerät ?
Da Jef Raskin an der Entwicklung des Apple Macintosh beteiligt war, erfährt man endlich wieso eine Apple Maus nur eine Taste hat.
Ich konnte aus diesem Buch einiges für meine Arbeit mitnehmen und werde diese Dinge auch zukünftig beachten.

Wired News: Windows to Power ATMs in 2005
Within three years, most bank machines that dispense cash will run on the Windows operating system, according to a study published last week.
By 2005, 65 percent of bank ATMs (not including free-standing machines in places like convenience stores and casinos) in the United States will use a stripped-down version of Windows. About 12 percent of the machines will use the operating system by the end of this year, according to Gwenn Bezard, an analyst at market researcher Celent.
I saw ATMs running Windows with „Error Memory Read“ Messages on their displays.
Why is this accepted ?
This decision makes no sense to me. As Operating System for a terminal where people check their accounts and make their personal financial transactions you need a stable system. Imagine you make a transaction and suddenly, ooops, ‚Error Memory Read in…‘ appears on the screen. What do you think ?

Na Weltklasse. Wenn man dies liest wird es ja immer besser. Anstatt ein alternatives Gegenangebot zum Schwarzmarkt zu gestalten wird der Verbraucher um seine Rechte beschnitten. Ich möchte mir eine CD kaufen und:
1. Eine Kopie brennen um Sie auch im Auto hören zu können.
2. mp3 Dateien erstellen um die Songs auch beim Sport zu hören.

0,49 € pro mp3 Datei im Abonnementverfahren für 20,30,40Euro… im Jahr, ohne irgendwelchen DRM Mist ?

While archiving my CDs in mp3 files with musicmatch I watched „K1“ on eurosport. I like this sport because it’s more dynamic and faster than boxing. More knockouts and no clinch. This time I watched the Grand Prix 2003 in Las Vegas. The „star“ Robert Sapp weights 161kg and is 2.00m tall. He isn’t a good fighter but if he hits its like a huge hammer. This was the first time is saw him going down but not for long time.
Famous spectators: Mike Tyson, Michael Jordan, Dr. Dre (the german host didn’t know him.)

So there are two reasons for me why I have to work till night on weekends:
1. The person who sells the software is not the same person that implents the software.
2. Nobody is interessted in a detailed, „in deep“ project structure.

Johnny Depp is a brilliant actor. Just the right role for him.
I think this movie has a little goof. The young William Turner lived with the pirates, so why they didn’t know that the child is a boy ?
So if you want to be entertained go and watch this movie.
