The Other Everynet

Yesterday I’ve been to a customer. Two employees from the IT-Department talked about WLAN security.
While working on my Thinkpad T40 I started IBM Access Connection and surprise, surprise, two wide open WLANs were shown up.
IBM Access Connections
I’ve showed them but they didn’t know those WLANs. I decided to go deeper in one of the WLANs. I connected and bingo, thanks DHCP I received an IP-Address.
I started Mozilla and I was able to surf the web. A quick look in ‚ipconfig‘ told me that 192.168.1.1 is the router address. I gave Mozilla „http://192.168.1.1“ to eat and a „Username and Password“ dialog popped up.
The router was a Linksys modell. A little google research and one minute later I had the default settings for this router. No username and ‚admin‘ as password. I tried it and here we go the Configuration Interface of the router.
Linksys Admin Interface
I started my IM Clients and Lotus Notes and I was able to chat and replicate Databases with the company.
So while I was in why don’t make a portscan with Superscan ? I discovered another machine in the WLAN which turned out as another Windows PC. What about ’security‘ on this machine ? I tried the adminstrative share ‚\\192.168.1.100\c$‘ and the ‚Username and Password‘ dialog popped up. What would you trying ? Yes. ‚Administrator‘ and no Password. Unbelievable I was on the local ‚c:\‘ drive.
There were a few Worddocuments and I decided to open one of them. It turned out that the sender of this document was a local bookstore on the other side of the street.
I went over the street and asked the manager which company installed the WLAN. He said that it was a friend of him. I told him that I don’t think that this guy is a friend of him because the WLAN is very unsecure (Ok. ‚No security‘ describes it in a better way). The manager smiled.
Then I told him the router modell, the IP range, his IP Address, no password on the router, no password for ‚Administrator‘ on his machine and then about the worddocument I’ve read and that this was an effort of ten minutes. He didn’t smile anymore and he asked me what to do. I told him to set passwords and to activate WEP keys, configure DHCP for his MAC Address only (hey, this tips are for free! If you want more, pay me!).
I’ve been to the same customer today and do you know what? Nothing changed…

Hell froze over. The best windows app ever.

Hmm, here it is: iTunes for Windows. Quit nice application.
iTunes for Windows
Don’t try this:
-Use it on your notebook in different networks. Startup time > 2 min (disable music sharing first)
-Don’t lose internet or lan connections while running iTunes for Windows, it’ll never come back to you.
-If you import a whole cd as mp3 from your cd-rom, sometimes iTunes freezes and will never come back to you.
-Don’t use to old hardware. iTunes doesn’t like the cd-rom of my old PC at home. ‚iTunes Drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs cannot be found.‘ This was no problem for ‚Musicmatch Jukebox‘
Ok Steve, next time or shall I say NextStep ?

Vorgruppe ‚Eaten By Sheiks‘.
„Ok.“

Quentin Tarantinos Kill Bill Vol.1

Sagenhafter Film.

fast, faster…

From the ‚Thanks A Million For That Tip‘-Section:

Make Acrobat Reader 6 load faster
Recently I repaved my laptop to make it a dual-boot Windows Server 2003 / Windows XP machine. I use Windows Server 2003 as my primary operating system, but keep around XP for when I am not connected to a power source (server sucks up the power like there’s no tomorrow). Anyway, I installed the new Acrobat Reader 6, and it loads much too slowly! So, after poking around the Internet, I found that it is all the plug-ins that are enabled by default slowing Acrobat reader down. After removing all but 3, it loads pretty much instantly.
Here’s how to do it:
1. Go to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader (replace the C if you installed on another drive, like I did).
2. Create a new folder called plug_ins_disabled.
3. Move all files from the plug_ins folder to the plug_ins_disabled folder except EWH32.api, printme.api, and search.api. There should only be these 3 files in the plug_ins folder.
4. You’re done.
UPDATE: See what the Acrobat Reader plugins do.

Neulich in der Muckibude

Spiegelräume verführen die Menschen zu zwei Dingen:

Kill Bill Vol. I

After reading this critic in Seattles ‚The Stranger‘. I think that’s my next movie.

Return of the King, Quentin Tarantino Bloodies Himself, by Bradley Steinbacher (10/09/03)
Kill Bill Vol. 1
dir. Quentin Tarantino
Opens Fri Oct 10 at various theaters.
Kill Bill Vol. 1 is being billed as „the fourth film by Quentin Tarantino.“ This, though, is somewhat of a typo; given the deluge of knockoffs and pale imitations of his work since the release of Reservoir Dogs, you could certainly peg his resum

Asian Weekend in Frankfurt

This weekend I meet a few buddies from school in Frankfurt. The reason was one of them will become daddy for the third time. Congratulations to Jens. Mankind will survive.
First we had a ‚little‘ snack in the japanese noddlesoup restaurant MoschMosch. And let’s say a few beer. After that we’ve been to a karaoke bar in the redlight district of Frankfurt. This was a surreal setup like in a Tarantino or Guy Richie movie. Six drunken german guys surrounded by asian people in a bad cheap seventy style karaoke bar. Some of them looked like actors from the movie ‚black rain‘ and I’ll bet in the next room one guy cutted his thumb off. The beerpitcher supply chain worked perfect for us there was no need to reengeneer this process.
One tip for life (free!): If you ever do karaoke, choose the slowest song you know. You’ll never be right in time with the text .
What happened after the karaoke will be a secret. I heared that some of the guys arrived at home in a stretchlimo.
Good night.

Get ‚Personal Folders On First Use‘ With LotusScript

Today I had an interesting problem. If you want to check personal folders with LotusScript you can’t get them (except your script runs local).
I did a little research in a forum on http://www.lotus.com/ldd and ‚bingo‘.
The idea behind is to get the UniqueID of the folder and then reference to it.
Function first.

Function isPrivateCopy(pnv As Variant) As Integer
‚based on code by Bruno Beauparlant and Heinrich Mueller
Dim designElem As notesDocument
Dim flags As Variant
isPrivateCopy = False
Set designElem = pnv.Parent.GetDocumentByUnid( pnv.UniversalID )
If Not (designElem Is Nothing) Then
If DesignElem.HasItem(„$Flags“) Then
flags = DesignElem.GetItemValue(„$Flags“)
Forall f In flags
If Instr(f, „V“) > 0 Then
IsPrivateCopy = True
End If
End Forall
End If
End If
End Function

Here an example code

Sub Initialize
Dim s As New NotesSession
Dim db As NotesDatabase
Dim view As NotesView
Dim nvec As notesviewentrycollection
Set db = s.CurrentDatabase
Forall v In db.Views
Set view = v
If isPrivateCopy(view) Then
If view.Aliases(0) = „Serial“ Then
Set nvec = view.AllEntries
Messagebox Cstr(nvec.Count) & “ documents in folder“
End If
End If
End Forall
End Sub
